Emmet Martin
Apprentice BareBones Combatives Instructor
I started my martial arts journey back in 2002 with Kickboxing and ShinKen-Do in Ireland. The reason for starting training was that I had always had an interest in martial arts and wanted to learn practical self-defence. I fought in a few kickboxing fights and finally received my black belt in 2009. In 2018 when I was back home in Ireland I also became a Senshido international team member through Mick O’Brien. I moved to Australia in 2011 and trained at several Muay Thai and Self Defence clubs. I started to train with Jim at Raw Combatives in 2014 and it was a real eye opener into the bigger picture of Self Protection. One of the first things I learned was that non physical skills like being aware, pre-threat cues, being able to verbally de-escalate and the like were as important as the physical skills, if not more so. These were things I'd never really thought of before and they were something I was really interested in. Jim is always open to you questioning his teaching method and seeing if they do in fact work for you as an individual. This is one of the many reasons I still train with him today. I'm really enjoying being an apprentice BareBones Combatives instructor under Jim and learning more from him so that I can help others to find a better way in the field of self protection. |
